I’m not into having everything under the sun for a baby. We’ve never had a changing table. Or fancy bedding sets. Or lots of baby toys. But these are a few of my favorite things to have around these days.

The Dishwasher

This is one of my favorite things, baby or not. Because I loathe doing dishes. We didn’t have a dishwasher when our daughter was a baby so I’m especially grateful now.

Cloth Diapers

We did cloth with our first and were amazed at the savings. Of course the savings are even bigger the second time around so I’m enjoying it even more! Plus my kiddos have ridiculously sensitive skin like their mama and they both did/do much better in cloth. And cloth diapers are so cute! :)

Coconut Oil

I love this stuff! It seems that pretty much all the world’s problems can be solved with vinegar, baking soda and coconut oil. I use it for diaper rashes (it’s safe for cloth diapers), as moisturizer for the whole family, for cooking and baking and even on bug bites. The jar lasts for a long time and is very reasonably priced. I get an even better deal by using Amazon’s Subscribe and Save Program.

My Nalgene

Because I can’t seem to get enough water. I didn’t remember having to drink SO MUCH when nursing our daughter. And then I realized her first few months of nursing were during a New England fall not a Deep South summer. Big difference and not doable without my Nalgene constantly by my side.

Moby Wrap

I tried a sling with my daughter, and she didn’t take to it, so I quickly did away with baby-wearing. But a friend let me borrow her Moby Wrap to use with this kiddo and I’m loving it (and so is he!). I use it mainly when we’re out and about…at church, on a walk, the grocery store, etc. It often puts him right to sleep. It took me a few tries and some YouTube videos to figure out how to wrap it and get him in and out. But now I can do it fairly quickly by myself.

What are your favorite things to have around with a baby in the house?

  1. All of the above are my list except the dishwasher(which I haven’t had in years and won’t likely have for a few more years) and the Moby which I’m seriously considering buying for this next baby.

I do love my Ergo though and have carried my babies everywhere in that. We did invest in a good stroller as we’ll be living a predominantly pedestrian lifestyle for the next few years so that got bumped up to a “need.”
Glad things are going well ;-)

    • A good stroller definitely sounds like a need for where you’re headed. I’m so excited for your big move and your new little one on the way. I’m looking forward to reading all about it!

  2. Yes! to so many…. Cute baby legs, and what cute seat are they sitting in may I ask?? Deciding what are needs for us and what I DON’T want as extra clutter… Glad you’re enjoying your sweet baby days : )
We’re down to ten weeks, yikes!!!

    • I agree on the clutter front. Having a baby has put me in a let’s-get-rid-of-everything mood. The seat is just a rocker seat that vibrates. It was a present from someone when our daughter was born. It’s held up well and both the kids have like the vibration even though neither one of them likes a swing. I can’t believe you only have ten weeks left!

  3. Hi Steph! Glad to see you back. I second the Moby; all my kids used it with success. And of course the dishwasher! Ours broke for a few days right after the babies were born so I know what a hassle it can be without it.

A favorite of mine is an app on my iphone that helps me track feeding and diaper changes. I don’t know how I did it before without it!

    • Broken dishwasher with two newborns, ugh. It’s great that all your kiddos like the Moby. I think I’m the only one on the planet who doesn’t have a smart phone so I’m out of luck on the app front. But I can imagine it’s super helpful, especially if you’re keeping track of two.

  4. Sigh…the days of having a dishwasher. I can’t wait for that season to be here again. I second pretty much everything you named as must-haves. I’m glad the moby is working out for you :) I would have been lost without it!

Oh, and what sweet baby legs!!
